The Night Circus by Erin Morgenstern

“The circus arrives without warning. No announcements precede it. It is simply there, when yesterday it was not.”
Erin Morgenstern, The Night Circus

I love this book with all my heart. When I was reading it, I felt myself submerged in the circus as if I was seeing the circus as a spectator and I kept finding new tents to go in.

I would like to invite all you bloggers to hop on this adventure with me now! 😀

All the places mentioned below are a part of The Cirque du Reve!

First stop : The Carousel

The whole reading experience of this book is like riding a carousel where you discover wonders and magic, and it keeps on spinning, transporting you into another world, another dimension. Pages after pages, you unmask the layers of the circus one by one. Everyone is mysterious and charming but no one can be trusted. You have to permit yourself to be immersed in the world of Imagination. Trust me, you don’t want the ride to stop. Until it does.. you cry. LOL

One of the most popular tent in Cirque du Reve! Because it’s “Like stepping into a fairy tale under a curtain of stars.”

What’s the story about? Celia, a daughter of  a powerful magician is receiving all of the training from her father to compete for the Ultimate Challenge. She has no idea what that challenge is and who her opponent is.

Marco, an orphan is recruited by a mysterious man in Grey and later on, will be trained to do magic with only books.IMG_6033 copy

Two opponents, two different methods of magic training.

While Celia has to suffer the torture and strict teaching of her father, Marco will be pretty much left to himself and learns to read about magic. Alone. They don’t know their opponents and the circus is the tool in which they can deliver their magic and show off each other’s talents.

3rd stop : The Scented Jars Tent

Okay this is one funny tent. Basically, you have tables of jars and in each jar there’s a different aroma (for example, cinnamon, caramel, etc.) The purpose  of this tent is genius ! I’m not going to spoil it here. So, taking the same concept, these are three elements in the book that are definitely worth a sniff 😀

THE MAGIC. You are an author and you want giphyto write a book about characters developing magic? Read this book and take note. Erin did a perfect job in describing the complexity of the acquisition of their magical powers, how they should embrace, how they can control it and how they can call upon it.

THE CRYPTIC AND THE MYSTIC. Man oh man.. I don’t even know how she does it but her writing is simply beautiful. Let me simply quote some lines from the book and you will understand:

They are enthusiasts, devotees. Addicts. Something about the circus stirs their souls, and they ache for it when it is absent. They seek each other out, these people of such specific like mind. They tell of how they found the circus, how those first few steps were like magic.

Throughout the novel, the goal and the puzzle is so obscure and tense you don’t know what will happen in the end. I usually like to guess how a book ends but this one, I had absolutely NO CLUE. For each page brings something out, something completely out of the ordinary.

4th stop: The Cloud Maze

MY FAVOURITE TENT. You have clouds moving all around, up and down, and you have to jump on them to climb up! Once you reach the top, you can simply let yourself fall down and there are clouds on the floor that will catch you.

A tree where people can write wishes on candles, light them up from previous candles, and leave them.

The tree is an important symbol of the romance in this book. I have to finish this review talking about it because this is no ordinary romance you find in most of the Young Adult novels. This is actually omg-im-addicted-to-their-love-and-that-chemistry-OMG KIND OF ROMANCE.

No joke guys, this is hand down one of the best novels in my bookshelf right now !
