I don’t even know how to start this review. I’m way too excited and emotionnally disturbed by this book LOL.

If I’m being completely honest and see this book on  a pure rational side, from a perspective of  a 22 years old woman, this book is childish and there’s no really depth into it.

BUT. This is Harry Potter. This world was my childhood and will always be the love of my life. This is where I fell in love with reading and litterature. Therefore, a lot of my attachment and emotions were biased in my opinion of this book. Afterall, it is my review and reviews are always subjective, right 😉

hp-and-cursed-childThis book follows the adventures of Albus (Harry’s son) and Scorpio (Malfoy’s son). Two children who unexpectedly became best friends. Feeling like he doesn’t belong anywhere, Albus will convince Scorpi to return back in time and save Cedric Diggory’s life, thinking that major event will bring justice to the world.

The plot is not that amazing, nor why the fact that Cedric’s death was chosen as the main event, I don’t know.

I think the real magic from this book is the friendship between Albus and Scorpio. J.K Rowling has created for us the dynamic trio Harry, Ron and Hermione. And now, she made it happen again with these two and it’s adorable.Even when their parents are ennemies, Albus and Scorpio don’t care about it and still keep their solidarity no matter what.

img_0442I read this book in 2 hours and I was always hungry for more . I guess it just feels good to be back at Hogwarts, reading about those characters that have such a strong attachment to your past. Living a nostalgia al over again. I had t oclose this book several times to breathe and absorb my excitement. That’s how much Harry Potter is to me. I’m sure this book was a marketing move, because they know the power of Harry Potter. If it was any other author, this would be seen as a merely acceptable fanfiction pubkished on some forums on the internet. hpsds

And then I thought, WE ARE THE CURSED CHILDREN. Slaves to this Harry Potter industries, craving for more and more every single day. We can never really move on from Hogwarts. This whole has put a spell on us, forever.

  1. What a wonderful review! And Speaking as a 51 year-old, I completely understand your mixed feelings. While I thought you could definitely tell that Rowling didn’t write this, there was still some of that magic there. And Scorpius! It was worth reading this simply for him!😊

  2. I felt the same way – I loved this book, but practically, I could understand why many people didn’t because there really wasn’t much substance to it and there were far too many plot holes to ignore. But the truth is that I’d love anything with Harry Potter in it; I guess we are the “cursed children,” in a way. Excellent review! xx

  4. Great review, and I completely understand your feelings about it all. It made me SO nostalgic to read this book, but at the same time, it wasn’t the best book obviously, and there were some bothering things about it, both in the characters and in the plot. But…. it’s Harry Potter. And it makes me so nostalgic to go back into that world 🙂

What a coincidence, I just wrote a review about HP & the Cursed Child as well 😉 Our reviews are not so different from another, great characters, but the plot…could be better.
The Cursed Child is not perfect, but it’s Harry Potter and this series is something special. Without Harry Potter I’d never have got into reading and literature at all, so these books have a special place in my heart.

I totally get your feelings about the book and the HP phenomenon.. As much as I loved seeing the trio in “canon” again, I wish there is no more of it.

No, the Cursed Child was a disappointment in terms of the weird plot. I am just scared what else will be ruined and meddled with if there is another book ..

Sigh, who am I kidding, I know I will end up buying the next book too 😦

I haven’t yet decided whether I’m going to read this or not. As much as this is a well-written review, it’s not really helping me decide, nor does the fact that while J.K. Rowling was involved with the story, it wasn’t written by her.

First of all, what is that drink next to the book? I must have one. It looks yummy and I love that it’s overflowing. Makes me think of ice cream….now I want ice cream.
Lol at we are the cursed children, but you’re probably right because we are cursed to be forever hooked on this series and constantly crave more.
I didn’t mind that it focuses on Cedric though because I think it is the death Harry felt/would feel most guilty about. To me, it’s the only death that wasn’t a willing sacrifice for Harry. And also Cedric’s father was always on Harry about something. I actually expected to him to act the way he does in Cursed Child after Cedric dies in Goblet of Fire. I just found it weird that Delphi knew that was the best person to exploit and knew to use Albus.
