Top Spring Books 2017 | Fantasy

Spring is finally here people ! ๐Ÿ™‚ Although it’s just been raining lately, I thought I’ll bright up your days with some of my top picks coming out this spring .. A.K.A.. MY TO BE READ LIST / WISHLIST ๐Ÿ˜€

Skulssworn by Brian Staveley

April 25, 2017ย

Brian Staveley’s standalone set in the worldย Chronicle of the Unhewn Throne universe. Pyre is a priestress, or what she should be if she can pass the trials of killing 10 people in a month.ย Her problem is not to kill. The problem, strangely, is love. To pass her Trial, Pyrre has ten days to kill the ten people enumerated in an ancient song, including “the one you love / who will not come again.”

This seems like an adult version of Throne Of Glass and I think I’d enjoy this ๐Ÿ™‚ Never heard of the Chronicle of The Unhewn Throne but I’ll gladly start it if I end up enjoying this novel!

Goodreads rating : 4.28 -58 rating/ 28 reviews

ย flame in the mistFlame in the mist by Renee Ahdiehย

May 16,2017ย

“The daughter of a prominent samurai, Mariko has long known her placeโ€”she may be an accomplished alchemist, whose cunning rivals that of her brother Kenshin, but because she is not a boy, her future has always been out of her hands.”

A huge deal has been set on for diversity in YA books, and this Renee Ahdieh attempt at the Asian culture had me curious, and finally I decided to pick this up in the future. Unfortunately, since I love Japanese culture I may be a little bit strict on this representation!

Goodreads rating: 4.26- 214 rating

redsisterRed Sister by Mark Lawrence

At the Convent of Sweet Mercy young girls are raised to be killers. In a few the old bloods show, gifting talents rarely seen since the tribes beached their ships on Abeth. Sweet Mercy hones its novicesโ€™ skills to deadly effect: it takes ten years to educate a Red Sister in the ways of blade and fist.ย

I read Lashaan’s review of this book, and let me tell you that everyone would want to buy it after reading his review LOL. Including me! But luckily for me I have an additional copy to binge read it muahah ๐Ÿ˜€

Goodreads rating: 4.39 – 300+ ratingย

ย caravalCaraval by Stephanie Garberย

This book has been EVERYWHERE. Marketing campaign done right LOL.

Scarlett Dragna has never left the tiny island where she and her sister, Tella, live with their powerful, and cruel, father. Now Scarlettโ€™s father has arranged a marriage for her, and Scarlett thinks her dreams of seeing Caravalโ€”the faraway, once-a-year performance where the audience participates in the showโ€”are over.ย

Okay this sounds like something really cool and magical, can’t wait to get my hands on it !

Goodreads rating: 4.03- 16,900+ ratingย

ย Norse Mythology by Neil Gaimanย

In Norse Mythology, Gaiman fashions primeval stories into a novelistic arc that begins with the genesis of the legendary nine worlds; delves into the exploits of the deities, dwarves, and giants; and culminates in Ragnarok, the twilight of the gods and the rebirth of a new time and people.

Goodreads Rating: 4.18, 15k Ratingย

strange the dreamerStrange the Dreamer by Laini Taylorย

“The dream chooses the dreamer, not the other way aroundโ€”and Lazlo Strange, war orphan and junior librarian, has always feared that his dream chose poorly. Since he was five years old heโ€™s been obsessed with the mythic lost city of Weep, but it would take someone bolder than he to cross half the world in search of it.”

For someone obsessed with dreams and sleep, THIS IS A MUST-READ FOR ME.

Goodreads Rating: 4.45, 1k ratingย

ย Here’s your turn to tell me what GENRE you would like to seeย in my next feature ๐Ÿ˜€ I’ll probably do one for every genre but the most voted one would be my next one!! ๐Ÿ™‚

Great List! I’m eagerly waiting for Flame In the Mist because I loved the the wrath and the dawn duology and I can’t wait to devour this too. I loved Caraval! It was an amazing book and now I’m dying to read the next book. I’m looking forward to read Strange the dreamer and Red Sister. I haven’t read the Chronicle of The Unhewn Throne either but I’m hearing great things about Skullsworn so definitely going to check this out too. ๐Ÿ™‚

Red Sister is most certainly a must! But you already know ๐Ÿ™‚ Norse Mythology is also another big winner for me. I am hoping to read Skullsworn and Strange the Dreamer as well. But I admit, I did not connect with Caraval. Happy reading ๐Ÿ™‚

I can’t wait to get my hands on Flame in the Mist, it’s one of my most anticipated books of this year, and I really want to try and read Norse Mythology soon as well.
I hope you enjoy both Caraval and Strange the Dreamer when you get around to them as well Trang. Both are favourites of mine so I’ll be looking forwards to seeing what you think of them. ๐Ÿ™‚

OMG Flame in the Mist has a fantastic cover! Like you, I’m strict on everything Japanese, having studied it, so I can’t wait for your thoughts on this one! I’ve seen Caraval everywhere so I’m never adding it to my TBR, hahaha!

I’ve been seeing a lot of buzz about Strange the Dreamer and Carnival in the book community. I have yet to see anything bad about about them. As for Norse Mythology, you can NEVER go wrong with a Neil Gaiman book. I look forward to seeing how you like all these.

Great post! ๐Ÿ˜€ I hadn’t heard of Skullssworn before reading your post, but I HAD to add it to my TBR immediately! It sounds seriously amazing and I have to read it. I’m really exited about Flame in the Mist, even though I haven’t read the other duology by this author yet. I love Japanese culture as well, so I’m really hoping that Renee Ahdieh will do great with representing it! (Though I have high hopes, as I have heard amazing things about her books!) ๐Ÿ™‚

    Lovely post, Trang ๐Ÿ’•
Caraval was a tad overhyped for me, I do hope you enjoy it though! I’m seriously excited for Flame In The Mist as Mulan is one of my favourite Disney movies. Also looking forward to Strange The Dreamer so, so much, I’ve heard it’s really wonderful ๐Ÿ˜Š
