Dirk Gently’s Holistic Detective Agency: I think people are now aware of the TV show starring Elijah Wood (a.k.a. Frodo). I’ve been eyeing Douglas Adams’ books for quite some time, but I couldn’t NOT add this series to my TBR. It just sounds like too much fun to turn my back on!

One Day in the Life of Ivan Denisovich: Upon seeing Orangutanlibrarian‘s pairing of this book with Animal Farm, I knew that it was my destiny to check this out ASAP!

The Thousand Names: I think I fell through a sinister portal on Goodreads to land on this one. It just called me. By my name. πŸ˜€

Homeland: This fantasy series is super popular (have you read it?) and I only discovered it because the author had a quote on the back cover of the book I’m currently reading (The Summer Dragon)

American Assassin: The only reason I actually added this was because of that recent trailer for the movie adaptation, which by the way looks freaking awesome. Although I was surprised this is a Vince Flynn book. Dude is everywhere. Don’t know why I never bothered adding his books to my TBR.

Lashaan: First of all, I only watched one movie in theaters, and you guessed it. It was The Fate of the Furious. We could talk forever about how much this series has changed since its first instalments, but let me tell you about how much fun this movie is if you watch it knowing that its going to ABSOLUTELY ridiculous. I laughed SO MUCH at how insane this was. Tyrese Gibson is my highlight for this movie (I was bent over laughing at how stupid he would be!). Even the Jason Statham-The Rock combo was pretty epic (Statham even has a really hilarious moment at some point, you’ll know what I’m talking about once you see it!). I also managed to watch Hell of High Water, a really solid character-oriented story with a very simple plot, but a very emotionally-packed execution. Also got around to watch The Grand Budapest Hotel! God I love Ralph Fiennes’ role. Dude is a phenomenal actor. If you didn’t know already, I also got around to finish season 1 of Legion. Check out my review to find out my more on my thoughts! The month of April was also the end of season 2 of The Legends of Tomorrow. Honestly, show got a lot better than how it debuted. While there’s still things that are just really stale, with poor writing, there are really fun moments sneaked in here and there. That cliffhanger also seems really promising for season 3.

If you’ve seen any of these, feel free to mention it in the comment section. I’d love to fanboy/hate with y’all! πŸ˜‰

Lashaan: Super excited to check this one out. The first movie was a total surprise and a highly entertaining movie directed by Matthew Vaughan!!!

So what’s going on with y’all? What have you discovered this month? What are your thoughts on the books/TV shows/movies we’ve mentioned?

Ooh I’m excited to check out your unpopular opinions (actually I have loads to catch up on here cos I wasn’t online much last week!) Oh gosh Trang you’re making me want to read Strange the Dreamer so much more!! And I’m so glad you want to read Ivan Densovitch, Lashaan!! And the Fate of the Furious does look absolutely ridiculous!!

Yep!! I just have to run into a copy to pick it up though. If I start hunting for it, I’ll probably never get through most of the books I want to read soon. πŸ˜› Fate of the Furious is 100% ridiculous. Thing is… The whole cast/director/producers/writers know that they created something ridiculous. You just have to watch the movie expecting things to be absolutely insane. It’s actually not a bad movie when you watch it knowing that it will go after your comedic side, and sometimes attempt to grab you by the feels (for old time sake). Fun stuff and not the last time we’ll be seeing this from them. There’s at least two more movies to come… And… I hear they plan on making a spin-off featuring Statham + The Rock. Gosh. Fast & Furious movies are probably here to last forever.

I feel like waaaaaaaay more people should have watched Dirk Gently’s Holistic Detective Agency! That was one of my favourite discoveries this year, but I am so not sure about the books. The show is very extremely different and I once tried to find them at my bookstore and the staff there just looked at me like I made a crazy request.

Bahahahah that had me laughing out loud. I can only imagine how wacky the book series might be. I wouldn’t be too surprised if it has no similarities with the TV series. πŸ˜› How would you describe the series though? I haven’t tried it out yet (thinking that maybe I should wait for more seasons/till I try the first book/get people to try the pilot ASAP.

That’s exactly why I still haven’t started it hahahah I feel like you need to go through more than a couple episodes to truly understand what it’s all about! But “a funnier Orphan Black” is an interesting description. I’ll have to test this show out during the Summer.

The Thousand Names by Django Wexler is a really good read and start to the series, the following two books are also great then the fourth dips in standard (always one in the series). I haven’t read Salvatore.

Shudders, what is Charlie Pugh, my ears are bleeding, rock and metal is the way to go for music!πŸ˜€

You guys had an amazing month! I’m looking forward to read The Strange the dreamer. I’ve been hearing great things about it so I can’t wait to check it out myself. The Thousand Names sounds totally epic! Adding it to my tbr! I ❀ Charlie Puth! I haven't watched the Fate of the Furious yet but I'm planning to watch it soon. I loved Kingsman first movie and I really can't wait to watch the second one.
Hope you guys have a great month in May! πŸ™‚

Yay! Glad to have made you discover The Thousand Names. πŸ˜› Even the cover alone had me hooked. Really curious to see how much we’ll enjoy that one. πŸ˜€ Hope you enjoy the Fate of the Furious when you go out to check it out. Such an insane and hilarious movie! Yeh, it’s not like the first couple movies, but the series know exactly what it is now! And, insane, it is! πŸ˜› Also loved Kingsman!!! I was really amazed by it, I wasn’t expecting it to be so much fun! Also loved Kick Ass, which was directed by the same dude, which might explain why things seems so correlated! πŸ˜€ Hope you have a wonderful month yourself!!! πŸ˜‰

Great recap for this month, it seems like you both got through a fair few books/comics and that you both had a good April as well. Trang I definitely agree that Strange the Dreamer is worth five discoveries. I thought that was an amazing book, what do you think so far? Also Lashaan I really need to watch Legion after reading your review for it, and I need to catch up on Legends of Tomorrow as well, I’m way behind on that series. πŸ™‚
I hope you both have an amazing May! πŸ˜€

Yep, yep. It was a pretty insane month. Especially when it was also the last month of our semester! I do hope you enjoy Legion when you get around to it! So far, it has only impressed everyone that has tried it out! πŸ˜€ Ohhhhh, it’s so rare to find someone who actually watches Legends of Tomorrow! It gets quite funny, sometimes weird, and sometimes ridiculous as you progress, but I definitely thought season 2 was better than season 1. Hope you enjoy the ride! πŸ˜‰ Wish you an awesome month of May toooo, Beth!!! πŸ˜€

Ohh, I guess now at least your semester is over now, more time to devote to blogging and reading and TV shows if you want! πŸ˜€
Good to hear, I’m excited to get around to it then.
And in that case I need to get back into the show so I can get started on season 2 eventually. I do know I loved what I saw of it so far. πŸ™‚
        Thanks so much Lashaan! πŸ˜€

Okay, so I think it goes without saying that I will be watching Legion when it becomes available on Netflix. It had better. They generally pick up all DC/Marvel..etc. So I am confident it will. I actually just purchased bot Dirk Gently’s Holistic Detective Agency and Strange the Dreamer so I am even more excited! You had a crazy, productive month! Both of you ❀

Yahooo!!! πŸ˜€ I’d even urge you to try it out before it gets released on Netflix, it’s just that good. πŸ˜€ I do hope you enjoy it as much as I did!! Ohhh sweeet, someone who can tell me if the book series is worth checking out, if it has any similarities to the TV series and if the TV series is worth checking out too!! πŸ˜› #pressure Yep, it was one helluva month! It was definitely fun though! πŸ˜› Hope you have a wonderful month of May though. πŸ˜‰

Ooh wow, such lovely discoveries! I had this massive smile in my face when I saw Grand Budapest Hotel! I love that film – such a beautiful and aesthetically pleasing film and genuinely funny too. Wes Anderson never disappoints, tbh.

I know right?! I really loved the cinematography style of the movie. Such a brilliant movie with a great and unique cast! Somehow I feel like the recent Netflix Series of Unfortunate Events had a similar vibe too (how the movie is shot and all)! Maybe it’s just me, but I definitely dig it! πŸ˜›
Hope the sequel of Kingsman will blow us away tooo!!! So many new characters and the return of one that you would’ve thought would never come back!!! Can’t wait!
Thank you so much for stopping by! πŸ˜‰

YOOO!! Fate of the Furious was mad, man!! I loved it too. The pose Don strikes at the end made me realize that they’re (well, Don) is a lot like a superhero in these movies (well, in these later ones). Btw, that Rock vs. Statham race/fight/whatever-that-was prison scene was awesome! It was my fav part of the whole movie.
And Grand Budapest Hotel was awesome. I didn’t expect to enjoy it so much when I saw it.

    • Lashaan (Bookidote) says:

Ohhh maaan, I know right??? It’s no surprise that Vin Diesel has been in movies like Riddick or xXx hahahh I thought The Rock is the one that they REALLLLYY wanted us to see that he was a superhero. His super strength? Holy shit! Hhahahaah Pretty sure The Rock told the crew that he wanted to show off his super-skills in preparation for his role as Black Adam in the DC Universe!! πŸ˜› Honestly, I ain’t a big fan of his acting skills, but with the right writers and with his physical traits, I think he could do an interesting job as Black Adam. πŸ˜€ But maaaan, I definitely enjoyed that chemistry between The Rock and Statham. I hear they plan on making a spin-off series with those two in the Fast and Furious universe. Why am I not surprised hahahah πŸ˜› As for Grand Budapest Hotel, I really didn’t expect to enjoy it that much too!! :O I just know it was nominated for best picture or something and was part of a list of movies I had to watch at some point. A friend of mine had seen it recently and told me it was amazing, it’s how I ended up just giving it a shot. It was a PLEASANT surprise!! Such a unique movie. πŸ˜›

      • Zezee says:

Yea man! I love their chemistry too. I dunno about a movie with them though. It’s nice to have a bit of them egging each other on and fighting in a show, but I wonder how that will work in a movie with just them. I think something will be lost.
And Yea. Grand Budapest Hotel was unique and something needed because all these movies are similar to me. Another unique one I loved was Boyhood and also Fantastic Mr. Fox.

Awwww yes!!! So glad to hear about Ragdoll πŸ˜› What do you like most about it so far? It was such an electrifying, fast-pace and captivating book. You got me excited for its sequel now.. who knows how long I’d have to wait for that! πŸ˜€

Good to hear about Flynn though. I’ve seen Brad Thor around too! I don’t think I’ve added anything written by him to my TBR yet though… I think it’s cause of how unappealing the book covers are… I actually haven’t even tried checking out what he was known for too. Will have to rectify that right now.

      • Karina Pinella says:

I’ve read all of Brad Thor’s books. I suggest you read them in order because they are a series. I reviewed one of his books many blog posts ago and listed them. Do a search on my site for Brad Thor’s so you can get a little bit more idea of his books.
