I’ve read quite some books these past weeks and I haven’t got the time to write a full post review on them, so I’m making these short reviews 😉 I will definitely write some more detailed reviews for these ones in the future!
GIRLS MADE OF SNOW AND GLASS
MY RATING : ★★★★★/5
I absolutely loved this book! I enjoyed this much more than I expected haha. What is very interesting with this book is a battle between daughter and mothers, two women who will discover their true powers and who must decide what to do with it. This retelling of Snow White is creative and full of spellbinding writing forming a rich and lush tale.
Thank you to Raincoast Books for giving me a free copy to review!
FIREBLOOD ( Frostblood #2)
MY RATING : ★★★★/5
I tend to be really picky on sequels, but gladly for me, this one is even better than the first book! I get to follow Ruby to Sudesia, land of of the Firebloods and my oh my that was exciting ! A book full of actions, character growth, a real training with other students 😉 That’s right y’all, a vibe of a magic and wizardy school here! ❤
Thank you to Hachette Canada for giving me a copy of this book to review!
GENUINE FRAUD
MY RATING : ★★★/5
If you’re looking for a great dark and psychological thriller for the fall, I would recommend this one! It’s not my usual liking since I tend to love REALLY gory and mind blowing thrillers but I thought some parts were very smart and genuine. I totally appreciate how raw and real this novel feels. Bad people do bad things, and sometimes, they do get away with it.
A girl who refuses to give people what they want from her.
A girl who refuses to be the person she once was.
LITTLE FIRES EVERYWHERE
MY RATING : ★★★★/5
You have to be mentally prepared for the slow pace in this novel. We follow a few events from different families in the suburb but that’s not it. All the 4 stars I’m giving is for Celeste Ng’s writing. It is B.E.A.U.T.I.F.U.L. No doubts about it! You will enjoy the characters’ dynamics and how the authors can give us such an empathic perspective even if it’s the most villain character in the story. She did a very good job at dissecting their behaviours.
Thank you to Penguin Random House for giving me a free copy to review!
THEY BOTH DIE AT THE END
MY RATING : ★★★/5
I think I’ve seen this book everywhere now and I was very excited to start it ! Although I have to admit I liked the general concept of it, I didn’t like the book as an overall experience. The random multiple POV’s really annoy me. How do they contribute to the story is still unclear to me. We don’t know why and how they know they were going to die… so the characters just start saying okay let’s go all YOLO mode! The stars I give to the book is for all the emotions it gets me through and especially that ending ❤
Thank you to Harper Collins Canada for giving me a free copy to review!
These two novels are also the September babes that I’ve already reviewed and you can find the reviews here:
Sing Unburied Sing by Jesmyn Ward – 5 stars
Warcross by Marie Lu – 2 stars
Instagram– Facebook– Goodreads– Twitter
The internal contradiction of the title for “Genuine Fraud” is great.
Also I find it annoying when a book has a lot of POV characters that don’t contribute all that much to the story, or otherwise don’t seem to have a good reason to be a POV character. At least when I write a book, I try to stick to 3-5 POV characters at most (6 on a couple occasions where the book’s scope needed it). Every POV character either has their own character arc, or at least has a major effect on the story and another POV character’s arc.

This is a great way to get through a backlog of reviews. I may have to remember this idea for when I’m behind! 🙂
Also great reviews Trang. Plenty of people seem excited about Girls Made of Snow and Glass but until yours I hadn’t seen any reviews for it. You’ve definitely helped convince me I need to buy and read this book. 😀

Girls Made of Snow and Glass sounds SO good. I recently added it to my TBR because I was so curious about this retelling, I’m so happy to hear you enjoyed it so much – it makes me even more excited to read it someday 🙂 I liked Lockhart’s previous books and have to admit I’m intrigued by this one, even if the way the story is told -reversed chronological order, I heard?!- seems a bit…weird, ahah. Did you find it confusing?
Great post! 🙂

It’s great to see so many 5 star reviews! September was certainly a kind reading month to you, Trang 🙂 Wish I could say the same hahaha (it was okay, though, just not as awesome as yours!)
I can’t wait to read the full reviews once you get some free time 🙂
