Hi everyone ! I’m doing this post because it seems a lot of people are confused on when and how to wear a mask and which mask to wear, etc. In this post, I will try and summarize what I know. Before everything else, a little disclaimer because there will always be somebody who will come at me and be like BUT WHO DA FCK U ARE to say this? Well know that all this information, can easily be found in the official website of Centers For Disease and Control, the WHO and also the knowledge I have gathered here is coming from doctors and specialists from Harvard University, John Hopkins and McGill university.
YOU SHOULD WEAR A FACE CLOTH COVERING WHEN..
CDC recommends wearing cloth face coverings in public settings where other social distancing measures are difficult to maintain (e.g., grocery stores and pharmacies), especially in areas of significant community-based transmission.Because in a some cases that are asymptomatic, the purpose of the face cloth covering is for people who are not aware that they have virus to protect other people from getting it.And Yes. They should be routinely washed depending on the frequency of use.
So yes, you go to groceries? PUT ON A FACE CLOTH COVERING.
So you are a young child under age 2, or anyone who has trouble breathing, or is unconscious, incapacitated or otherwise unable to remove the mask without assistance? Don’t go to the groceries, ask for help or even someone else do it.
YOU SHOULD WEAR SURGICAL MASKS WHEN..
The current recommendations regarding masks are that if you yourself are sick with fever and cough, you can wear a surgical mask to prevent transmission to other people. If not, please leave the surgical masks to the healthcare workers who are working in the hospital environment.
YOU SHOULD WEAR N95 MASKS WHEN…
You are a healthcare personnel in close contact with (i.e., within 6 feet of) patients with suspected or confirmed coronavirus disease (COVID-19), during aerosol generating procedures, and for infectious diseases when airborne precautions should be followed. «These activities include patient assessment for triage, entering examination rooms or patient rooms to provide care or to clean and disinfect the environment, entering a patient’s home, obtaining clinical specimens, and handling soiled medical supplies or equipment.»
My personal opinion on whether the general public should wear a mask or not? I think it is relevant to wear a face covering in CROWDED area like doing your groceries. Honestly, the cloth masks are more effective than doing nothing at all, and it could still be helpful. For example, «cloth mask could help prevent people from touching their faces and convey a sense of severity of the pandemic.»
